One of the better Vietnam movies. Platoon and Hamburger Hill were over done and made the war look like it was the americans who were killing everyone the came across. That and it is one of the most historically accurate films about vietnam without watching a documentary.

It's my favorite movie. It has Mel Gibson. and I like how they the camera moves to different spots(i.e. they went form the group of people at the creek to the stranded soldiers that masacered the vietnamies in the pitch black). It kind of tells several different stories in one movie.

Agreed that is one of the best movies. I like Black Hawk Down the most. It was a sad story but all war movies now are sad.

I've never seen Black Hawk Down but it does seem like they play everything in slow motion when the main dude gets shot doing something heroic. Then they go to the funeral, 5000 people show up and once again in slow motion they hand a folded american flag to the widow.

Well that is just how all war movies are shot these days. Hero dies and the nation morns him until the next guy arrives, it is just how it is.

We Were Soldiers- First Contact between American soldiers and North Vietnamese regulars. the American forces consisted of the first helicopter-borne troops, the 7th Cavalry. in the end, the Americans ended up taking the NVA mountain stronghold, but at a heavy cost.
Black Hawk Down- Battle of Mogadishu on October 3, 1993. 18 american soldiers were killed and 4 Blackhawk helicopters were shot down. 2 crash landed in the city and 2 limped back to friendly ground before crashlanding. out of about 100 Rangers and Delta Force operators about 70 were wounded and 18 were killed. it went from a simple snatch-and-grab operation, to a rescue mission trying to save the surrounded Rangers and Delta Force operators in the city.
the air support special effects are awesome in We Were Soldiers. napalm, 20mm cannon fire, and other big things that make us happy in this one. i think Michael Bay did the special effects, so you know they're good.

"R" for strong language, war violence, gore. at one point a Delta Force operator Griz Martin is blown in half by an RPG. his intestines hang out. it may be a very violent movie, but it is very good, talking about a little-known event in american history.

Yea the only reason it is "R" is because of that one scene. Other than that it could have been rated PG-13
